Multi-NC Spanish CERT Class

The North Hills West Neighborhood Council is proud to report that there are now 30 more Spanish speakers in our community that are well on their way to being disaster ready, having completed the 7 week Community Emergency Response Team Training class in Spanish.

CERT classes train community members in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. This training is essential because in the case of a major disaster, first responders will not be able to attend to every problem and residents need to be ready to fill the gap and respond in their communities.

And it is essential in Spanish, due to the large Spanish speaking population in and around this area.

LAPD CERT Graduation Cake

North Hills West Neighborhood Council was pleased to partner with North Hills East, Mission Hills and Panorama City Neighborhood Councils to coordinate the class, provide outreach for it in our communities and fund PPE (personal protection equipment) backpacks for each graduate. This is the first time four Neighborhood Councils have come together to offer a CERT class in Spanish in Los Angeles, and we are excited to take the lead in making our communities more disaster ready!

We also thank Southern California Preparedness Foundation for their financial & logistic support. Special recognition to instructors LAPD Sgt Evy Arocho and Senior Lead Officer Charles Chacon.

The free class was held at United Methodist Church 15435 Rayen Street, North Hills,
on 7 Tuesdays finishing August 28, 2018.
