LAFD CERT Valley Emergency Radio Training (FRS/GMRS/Walkie-Talkie)
When, not IF, a disaster strikes, cell phones and land lines will be overloaded and may not work. When that happens, the only reliable form of communication will be radio. This hands-on radio training class is perfect for those who just want to learn how to turn it on, listen and speak using a walkie-talkie radio.
This class will consist of hands-on training drills using a radio. As a bonus, members of the emergency communication group LAFD ACS (LAFD-Auxiliary Communication System) as well as LAFD CERT will be on hand to encourage us to become better radio operators.
So, come learn how to better communicate on a “walkie-talkie” radio so that when the time comes, you’ll be prepared! (This series of radio trainings is open to all people interested in emergency radio communication using FRS/GMRS radios, aka, “Walkie-Talkies”.)

If you have one, please bring your FRS/GMRS radio (Walkie-Talkie) and working batteries. If you have not purchased one yet – we will have extras for practice.

(Personal note: My goal for the Valley is to have this kind of training at least every few months so that we all become familiar enough with radio protocols to use them properly when an emergency happens. The last time my house had a power outage – I fired up my radio – but no one was on the other end. I hope the next time something happens – I hear YOU checking in.)
