Hi All

You are invited to join our Teleconference this Saturday, 3/23/24 at 10 AM, to continue our discussion of this session’s legislation.

We will be going over bills that we’re watching and get your input and recommendations for Livable California positions.

Jay Beeber, Executive Director – Safer Streets L.A. will join us to go over the priority bills of the National Motorists Association.

Hearing are now being scheduled (Linked here). So far, the April 9th and April 10th hearings are most important to us.

Our coastal protections are under attack

Read the CalMatters article:

Fresh batch of YIMBY housing bills clash with coastal protections (again)

SB 951 – California Coastal Act of 1976: coastal zone: coastal development by Scott Wiener was amended yesterday after pressure from the Coastal Commission who voted to oppose SB 951 unless it’s amended to remove sections 1 and 2 and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who adopted a resolution to oppose it.   Here is an article on the amendment.

This was Wiener’s next step in his campaign to undermine the Coastal Act and encourage luxury housing on our precious coast – think Miami Beach. The bill is not dead and will likely see future amendments to damage our coastal protections.

Please sign the Petition to defeat the amended SB 951.  Send your portal letter to oppose SB 951 by 5 PM Thursday, March 28, the deadline for its April 9 hearing.

AB 2560: Density Bonus Law: California Coastal Act of 1976. This bill would provide that any density bonus, concessions, incentives, waivers or reductions of development standards, and parking ratios to which an applicant is entitled under the Density Bonus Law be permitted notwithstanding the Coastal Act. SB 2560 will be heard on April 10 in the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee. Your opposition letter should be submitted via the portal by Tuesday April 2nd.

SB 1092: Coastal resources: multifamily housing development: coastal development permits: appeal

SB 1077: Coastal resources: coastal development permits: accessory and junior accessory dwelling units: parking requirements

The 2024 legislative session is well underway, 2306 bills were introduced for the 2024 session (Linked here). We’ve flagged 146 bills to screen (Linked here).

If you would like to get more involved in the process, we could use some volunteer bill analysis help. Please email if you would like to become part of our bill analysis team.

There are many resources here for you to use throughout the session.

Our target is to have enough monthly contributors to sustain us so we don’t have to continuously ask you for donations. And we don’t want to have a required membership fee like many other organizations. Just 140 people contributing $25 / month would sustain us. If you can be one of those 140 people, please donate here.
