Situational Awareness: How to Not Become a Victim hosted in Northeast Los Angeles Saturday, March 4th, 10:00am-11:30am Hybrid In-Person and Zoom Online LAFD Fire Station 55 (4455 York Blvd, Eagle Rock, 90041) and on Zoom RSVP for in-Person Location or Register for Zoom at https://lafdcertcentral-march2023.eventbrite.com On Saturday, March 4th at 10am, join your neighbors at LAFD Fire Station 55 (4455 York Boulevard, Eagle Rock, 90041) as we continue to prepare our Community. We’re working on making this into a Hybrid meeting with participants online (Zoom) and in-person at LAFD Fire Station 55. We should be able to reach a greater part of our community. Maintaining Situational Awareness is a habit that needs to be trained. Most of us go along our day making a set of assumptions. 99.9% of those times, those are good assumptions. But it’s that .1% of the time that leads to problems. We aren’t just talking about victims of crime but so many of us are paying more attention to our phones or other distractions that people literally have walked into open manhole covers or been hit by cars or bicycles or even other people. In our ever-busier lives, we focus on the wrong things and what we don’t see coming will get us in trouble every single time. We’ll analyze these assumptions so we can first understand what they are and why we make them and then give tips and tricks on how to not become complacent and lulled into a false sense of security without becoming paranoid and overly cautious. Better yet, we’ll give you tips and tricks for what to do when that .1% shatters our assumptions and now we need to either respond to or react to something we didn’t anticipate or plan for. Like every learned behavior, awareness of the issue comes first and then making the effort to change comes second. This skill applies to everyone and may save you or a loved one’s life. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join this training and let’s all make sure we don’t become victims of something we didn’t see coming. This isn’t a Community Emergency Response Team training, this is a “we should have learned this in high school” training. As always, our trainings are open to everyone, regardless of if you are CERT-trained or not, regardless of if you live in Northeast Los Angeles or not.
