This Saturday, October 13th, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, is our monthly (second Saturday each month), Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Meeting at the Flyaway Bus Station, 7610 Woodley Ave. (NE corner of Saticoy), upstairs in the 2nd Floor Community Room. Go inside the building and take the elevator, or climb the steps at front. Plenty of free parking out front in the short term lot, spaces closest to the street.
This month’s meeting is going to be a fun one, as we begin a series of DVDs with Dr. Joe Alton and his wife, Amy, an Advance Research Nurse Practitioner. These folks are legends in the EP field, and you may have, or have seen, their great book, The Survival Medicine Handbook, the guide for when medical help is NOT on the way! This Saturday’s “movie” is the “Guide to Survival Medical Supplies“ — what to have on hand when you are the medic for a group of people, large or small! We will begin right at 9:00 AM, so come early to get a good seat! Bring pen and paper to take notes!
Don’t forget our Sunday Morning Amateur Radio Net (Ham) at 9:00 AM, Simplex 145.570 and our FRS/GMRS/Walkie-Talkie Net at 10:00 AM, Channel 15, or 17 if 15 is busy. These may be our only/best means of electronic communications after a disaster, so come join the fun and practice your skills!
Also, Sally Thompson asks that I remind you of the CERT Battalion 10 Meeting this Sunday, October 14th, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM, at the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Adult Rec Center in the Auditorium at 5056 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, 91403. (Across the street from Corky’s Restaurant). This month’s meeting will be instruction on the Incident Command System (ICS). You do not have to be CERT trained to attend this informative meeting — it’s open to the entire community! Sally always hosts great meetings, and you’re guaranteed to learn some really useful information!
