Our speaker this month will be BARBARA MARISCAL, Red Cross Disaster Program Manager.  This is your chance to ask the Red Cross all those questions you’ve been saving up about Shelters during disasters!!!  We think this will be a really interesting presentation, so make your plans now to attend!
Registration is now open for the Valley Disaster Fair to be held this year on Saturday, October 12, 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Northridge Fashion Center.  Go on line at ValleyDisasterFair.com to register.  This is a real time-saver on Fair Day if you want to receive one of our Family Starter EP Kits!  Remember — only registered attendees will receive a kit. Fair admission, parking, lunch, and kits are all FREEas long as supplies last!

NO LBNC EP MEETING IN OCTOBER BECAUSE OF THE FAIR.  We’ll see you in September and November, though!
Don’t forget the animals!  Please bring contributions for OPERATION BLANKETS OF LOVE for the animals in Shelters and those owned by the homeless to our meeting Saturday.  Remember that Shelters have no budget for comfort items!  Also, we need mascara wands washed in hot water and Dawn Dishwashing Soap for cleaning/medicating tiny creatures in North Carolina Wildlife Centers.
Also, remember our Sunday Morning Lake Balboa Amateur Radio Net, every Sunday at 9:00 AM, Simplex 145.570, and our FRS/GMRS/Walkie-Talkie Check-In at 10:00 AM, Channel 15 (17 if 15 is busy).  The FRS Net is a great way for ALL OF US TO COMMUNICATE AFTER A DISASTER Pick up an inexpensive set of walkie-talkies at SOS Survival Products, Costco, the drug store, or hardware store.  (But do get the best ones you can afford.)  More info on these this Saturday at the meeting.  No license needed to operate.  If you can’t figure them out, bring to our meeting and Dan Tomlinson will have you an expert in no time at all.  How else will you know when shelters and supply bins will be open???  Or which hospitals/grocery stores/pharmacies are open?  Don’t forget that we’re likely to be on our own for days if not weeks, depending on the size of the disaster!
Really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things! Please see the Agenda below.  See you at the meeting this Saturday???  Questions?
