Summary: The North Hills West Neighborhood Council supports the designation of the Quercus agrifolia, commonly known as the Coastal Live Oak as the official tree for the City of Los Angeles. The Coastal Live Oak is a native species to the city and has stood the test of time for its resilience in our Mediterranean climate. It provided sustenance to the Tongva and Chumash people who first inhabited the region. The Spanish explorers were so impressed with the abundance of this oak that the community of Encino was named after it.
