02/27 CSUN COMMERCE OF CREATIVITY – ROBERT TOWNSEND
Robert Townsend, noted actor and filmmaker, began his career as a stand-up comic and today is President of Tinsel Townsend Productions, Inc. and Townsend Entertainment Corporation.  His frist film, Hollywood Shuffle (1987), which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in, encapsulated his frustrating experiences as a black performer in a white-dominated Hollywood and earned him Best First Feature at the 1987 Independent Spirit Awads.  Since then, Townsend has received 30 NAACP Image Award nominations for his prolific work in film and television.  He has blazed a new media landscape by creating Web-based content and establishing The Robert Townsend Foundation to inspire, create and fund new film content and distribution models.  Committed to the future of young people, the movie industry and the community as a whole, Townsend conducts master classes and speaks nationally on behalf of the United Negro College Fund and the Milken Family Foundation.  “I am truly blessed to do what I do,” Townsend says.  “As I write this next chapter of my life I will bring my ‘A’ game like never before, with more zest, more passion, more vision, and more love.”
Admission is free but reservations are recommended.  Please visit www.c2speakers.com to reserve your seats and find out more about the Commerce of Creativity.
